5 p.m. Update: Press Release on Harvey; Closures for Monday

Tropical Storm Harvey

UPDATE 8/27/17 5:00PM

Bryan Independent School District

To protect the safety of Bryan ISD students and staff, all district facilities will be closed Monday, August 28.

All before- and after- school activities are cancelled for Monday. Teachers and non-essential employees should not report to work. Essential employees will be notified by their supervisor should they need to report to the District during regular school hours. The District will continue to monitor local weather conditions and assess area roadways. We are partnering with local agencies, emergency management officials and neighboring school districts to facilitate coordination.

The Bryan ISD school year calendar allows extra minutes of instruction to accommodate for events like this. As such, there will not be a bad weather make-up day.

Parents, staff and community members should continue to monitor local media and the Bryan ISD website/Facebook/Twitter accounts for updates on school closings and event cancellations.

BTU crews continue to address outages throughout Brazos, Robertson, and Burleson counties. The primary cause of outages at this time is uprooted trees falling into power lines. Outages are reported directly to BTU by the customer’s meter—there is no need to call in outages. Crews will continue to address outages throughout the night.

Customers do not need to call to report an outage—the customer’s meter will report a loss of power and a crew will be dispatched as soon as possible. Any down or low hanging power lines should be reported to the BTU System Operations Center at 979.822.3777, and customers should avoid attempting to move or walk under down lines, as they may still be energized.

Outage duration may be longer than usual due to road closures and large amounts of standing water. Customers are asked to be patient as crews work as safely and quickly as possible to restore power.
